Happy Halloween! A Short Lettering Process Video
Happy Halloween! Are you ready for some [Covid safe] spooks and thrills?
I will be spending today lettering away for a custom order (more exciting details on that and other sweet projects, soon!), but after a good night sleep, I opted to take a moment for some Halloween lettering fun.
So…today I thought I’d share a full process video of some hand lettering for your viewing pleasure! It’s always fun to take some time for practice, so I wanted to share that small chunk of time with you.
The Wind Down—Deep Breath!
Running a small arts business—and I’m sure any small business—is a bundle of emotions and feelings: excitement, hope, stress, exhaustion, worry, curiosity, positivity, wonder, and so many more.
It’s when things are gearing up or a small business is super active that things can bounce between both joyous and at times, incredibly busy. But then there are other periods that lulls happen. It’s just the nature of life and business…especially during a pandemic.
Watercolor Vs Calligraphy: Must it Be One or the Other?
You may have caught on, that while I’m forever loyal to the people and things I love, in the “things” realm, this means that I struggle with “picking just one thing.”
I’m sure this deliberation is not unusual for many artists, as we are often encouraged to pick a niche and stay there. The problem is—and perhaps it’s the roaring Gemini in me—I simply can’t pick just one.
Divinity in Blue: A Galaxy Collection Sneak Peek
Today is a very exciting day for me! Not only am I counting down to the release of my new Galaxy Collection on October 13th, but today is the sneak peek I’ve been dying to show you… A whole new and larger format watercolor galaxy—on a huge wood slice!
As you may have caught on, I have a thing for wood slices. My journey into galaxy painting lasted about half a second on paper before I became obsessed with painting on wood slices. I guess it’s safe to say it all started when I took my first watercolor class, and my brilliant teacher gave a walk through of mediums (aka nifty things that help you paint with watercolor). She mentioned watercolor ground, a paste-like substance you can apply to non-watercolor-paper surfaces to create watercolor absorbency.
Sneak Peek: Galaxy Ornaments and Cards
If you missed the excitement last week, then you had the pleasant luxury of NOT hearing me squeal so loud the whole country probably heard me…but hey, that’s okay—because I’m back squealing again today!!
See, in just 11 more days, the Galaxy Collection will be dropping here at Jaded Studios.
Announcing…The Galaxy Collection is Coming!
Oh, wow, am I excited to share news I’ve been hiding up my sleeve for a couple months now…dun dun dun…
The Galaxy Collection is coming soon!
The Galaxy Collection is coming soon to my shop!
If you’re a fan of my watercolor work, and a lover of all things stars, planets, and sky (like me!), then this collection is going to be a special treat for you.
It’s Fall, Y’all—and Pumpkin Season!
As the PSL (plant stake lady) who loves PSLs (pumpkin spice lattes), heck yeah, I’m all about pumpkin season! What about you?
I’ve always been a fan of pumpkins nearly everywhere—except in pumpkin pie, I know, weird—so it seemed like a no brainer last year that I should start lettering on pumpkins. I gave up carving them so long ago, and am forever bent on lettering on anything that isn’t paper…so when I realized I could letter directly on pumpkins, I was quick to launch a few Halloween and Fall themed designs. These faux pumpkins made of craft foam were sturdy enough to last for many seasons, and came just in time for a couple craft fairs and farmers’ markets I did. I just loved how the hand lettered pumpkins added the sweet and fun joy of peppy hand lettering to an item more traditionally used for scare tactics or food making!
Introducing…The Pregnancy Announcement Pot
Custom orders are some of my absolute favorite things to make for my customers, whether they’re adjustments to currently offered items in my shop, or brand new ideas full of love just waiting to be lettered for someone special.
That’s why, when I received a custom baby announcement pot request, I knew I had to add some options like it into my shop line-up. Talk about the cutest pregnancy announcement ever—with an adorable hand lettered garden pot to announce the news, so someone special to the family could grow something alongside the growth of the little baby-to-be?!

For the Love of Hand Lettered Wood Signs!
It never occurred to me when I first started hand lettering that I’d so quickly end up wanting to letter on pretty much every surface except paper. I mean, sure, I practiced calligraphy on paper and still do…but almost right out the gate, I was determined to try it on any other surface imaginable. First it was glass, then plastic, then random things (my arm, for example)…and, surprisingly fast, it was on wood.
